Eye Level & Balance

Monte is a really good athlete (plays football at his high school) and definitely has some quick twitch ability. This is the first video I have of him from July 2024.

The first thing we identified with Monte is that his eye level rises as he swings the bat. Most professional level hitters, you're going to see the head stay level through the swing or even drop a little bit. It might drop due to the spine angle being a little more inverted vs. straight up and down (like the hitter is leaning back). Obviously, if your eye level is moving as you're swing the bat, it is going to create some barrel accuracy issues if the movement is 100 percent consistent. Monte can monitor this by picking out a stationary object behind him and seeing where his eyes are in relation to that.

The other thing we talked to him about from this video was just overall balance. I think this may go hand in hand with the point about eye level. Trying to get more into the ground and feeling like he could hold his finish in the ground (especially during front toss/tee work) may help with the eye level and vice versa. This lack of balance stands out a little bit more here:
