Timing the Front Foot Down
Michael has a fundamentally sound swing, good hand-eye coordination, and good athleticism to go along with it. Playing football only helped him get stronger. I love the little hitch/bat tip he has to help him create speed too. This is a good, athletic move.
One thing we are working on with him is using his athleticism a little bit more. Specifically in this case, trying to time his front foot down a little later. It is very common for younger hitters to be told "to get their front foot down early." This is because coaches fear hitters being late. But if we get our foot down so early that it breaks our swing into two parts, we are maximizing the use of our athleticism through the swing. Here is a round where this was the focus:
