Philosophy

The root of our philosophy is simple. We want you to hit balls hard as often as possible to make you the most effective hitter you can be.

Process Oriented, Not Result Oriented

There is no hitting coach in the world that is a miracle worker. You are not going to go from being a .200 hitter to a .350 hitter by seeing any coach a single time. Becoming a great hitter is a journey filled with major (sometimes) and minor adjustments that will take hours of extra work for them to become natural.

With this being said, when we give you a drill to work on that forces you out of your natural tendencies, your barrel accuracy to the ball is going to get worse by default on your first few swings. Stick with it! Maybe you try this for a week and it doesn't work for you and we try something else. What we are not going to do is sit in the cage and judge every swing by how well you squared up the ball, especially when you are trying something new. If you are willing to struggle on the front end to make greater gains on the back end, then this is the environment for you. If you are looking for the quick fix that changes your world overnight, I promise you that coach doesn't exist.

Mechanics vs. Competing

Mechanics are essential part of becoming a great hitter. A solid set of mechanics helps you maximize your ability by allowing you to hit the ball on the barrel with higher frequency, generate more power when you do square a ball up, and allow your swing to be adjustable when you are not perfectly on time with the pitch. These things are all super important and a huge part of what we teach.

However, we do not want to deemphasize how important it is to compete in a batter's box. At the end of the day, the game you play is called "baseball" not "baseball swing". Our philosophy is to teach you a solid set of hitting mechanics without deemphasizing how important it is to compete in a game. There are plenty of hitters out there with beautiful swings that can't hit for one reason or another. At extra hacks, our sessions involve both of these critical elements.

Metrics

Let me preface this by saying I am a huge data person. The numbers available today I would have loved as a player when I was younger. However, if you are 14 years old and care about what your highest "exit velocity" is, this is NOT the program for you. Our goal is to help you become the best hitter you can be. This makes you the best baseball player you can be, and in turn enables you to enjoy playing the game.

We care way more about how frequently you hit a ball "hard" than what the velocity of your hardest hit ball is. As you grow up, you will get stronger and your range of motion will change to help with this RESULT ORIENTED metric. You are going to have more fun playing baseball hitting a ball hard 7 out of 10 times and being on base often than you are hitting 1 ball for a double and striking out in 40 percent of your at bats.

I understand that this is what you're seeing on TV and being fed through social media. I am a big proponent of trying to replicate the movements you see MLB players make, but remember that the exit velocity and other data you see are a direct result of their ELITE LEVEL MECHANICS, STRENGTH, and ATHLETICISM. So let's work on these things to make us better hitters instead of focusing solely on a number we're reading on a radar gun.
